Magnolia Rotary News

17 October 2007 - We note the sad passing of the oldest Rotarian Reed Thomas, born the year Rotary was founded (1905). He laid down for a mid morning nap, at age 102, and slipped peacefully into his eternal home.  He was a longtime and loyal member of the De Queen, Arkansas Rotary Club.  Of him, De Queen President Elect Brother Doug Dorris said, "As I sat in his living room with his family today and saw the Four Way Test and other Rotary memorabilia on the walls, his beloved Belle, wife for the past 72 years said, 'Rotary was such an important part of his life, I wish there was some way to have all his Rotary friends together during the memorial service.  He loved you all.'"  His memorial service was on 20 October.

6 November 2007 - We regret to announce the passing of a long time member of Magnolia Rotary, Bobby Neil, after a long bout with cancer.  He was 73 and a 37 year member of Rotary.  May he rest in peace.

20 December 2007 - Magnolia Rotary held elections for officers who will be assuming office on 1 July of 2008.  Also, the Club approved the creation of an additional office, President Nominee, who will become the President Elect, barring unforeseen circumstances, when the President Elect moves up to the office of President.  The purpose is to give the person who ultimately becomes President two years in which to familiarize himself/herself with the office.  The officers elected were:

        President Elect:  Chris Gilliam

        President Nominee:  Jim MCCollum

        Secretary:  Waylon Brown

        Treasurer:  Annette Pate

Board Members:  Scott Boaz and Jim MCCollum

        Sergeant at Arms:  David Taylor

Song Leaders:  Sterling Lacy and George Ransford
